The Flight of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle

The Flight of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is an 11.30min work for brass band and will be available for purchase in June 2025. The Flight of the Wedge-Tailed Eagle was written to represent the journey of Australia’s largest eagle on a circuit around Australia. The journey takes in seven breath-taking landscapes and environments: Blue Mountains, Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest, The Bungle Bungles, Uluru, The Twelve Apostles, The Three Sisters. Each section represents a musical depiction of the landscape as seen from the Wedge-Tailed Eagle’s perspective.

Meander

Meander is a lyrical brass band work inspired by the love story of my great-grandparents, Vera and Clement. Vera grew up along the Meander River in Tasmania, a winding waterway whose gentle curves and quiet beauty left a lasting impression on her early life. Years later, she moved to Buninyong, where she married Clement and began a new chapter far from the river of her childhood.

When Clement named their farm Meander, it was both a tribute to the river Vera had grown up beside and a tender play on words — sounding like “me and her.” The name came to symbolise not only a place, but a partnership: two lives flowing together, shaped by time, distance, and devotion.

The music reflects this idea of meandering — unfolding gradually, lyrically, and with warmth — tracing a journey of memory, love, and shared life.

Stages of Grief

'Stages of Grief' was written in 2022 and is the first brass band work by young Australian composer Adele Mitchell. It artfully progresses through the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Each stage is expressed through distinctive musical themes and emotional textures, creating a powerful and evocative journey of emotional healing and introspection.
